Become a member of Kearney Whitewater Association

The Kearney Whitewater Association started from a grassroots group of local citizens that believed in the recreation potential of the Kearney Canal Tailrace and Turkey Creek. Today the association is comprised of members with many different attributes; enthusiastic paddlers, both novice and advanced, community members looking to improve the Tailrace and Turkey Creek, as well as regional members that enjoy paddling with others throughout the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains!

KWA worked in collaboration with the City of Kearney and the Nebraska Public Power District to help bring the Kearney Water Trail into existence in 2016. Two public access landings were created, aided by funds raised by the association.
Efforts continue to improve the water trail by hosting cleanup events to remove garbage, debris, and other hazards such as log jams and old car bodies. Bank stabilization and vegetation management are also important to the continued success of the water trail.

Members like to have fun too! We host group floats on the water trail, as well as trips on many rivers in the area! The Platte, Republican, and Niobrara Rivers are just a few of the great local floats that are enjoyed by many of the members. Other locations include: Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, and that is just getting started!
